What Is the World Cup?
The FIFA World Cup is the biggest soccer tournament on Earth. It happens once every four years, and teams from many countries play to see who is the best.
Billions of people around the world watch it. That is more than half of all the people alive! It is like one giant party where everyone cheers for their favorite team.
Three Countries, One Big Party
In 2026, something brand new will happen. For the very first time, three countries will host the World Cup together: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Games will be played in 16 cities across North America. That means fans can travel between countries to watch the matches, like going on a big soccer road trip.
More Teams Than Ever Before
The 2026 World Cup will have 48 teams. That is more than ever! Before, only 32 teams played, so this is 16 extra teams getting a chance to shine.
More teams means more countries get to join the fun. Some nations will play in the World Cup for the very first time, which is super exciting for their fans back home.
When Does It Happen?
The tournament will take place in the summer of 2026, from June to July. The host countries automatically get to play, so the USA, Canada, and Mexico will all have teams there.
Other countries have to win qualifying games first to earn their spot. It is a bit like earning a ticket to the biggest game of their lives.
Why It's a Big Deal
Mexico will become the first country to host World Cup games three times! It also hosted in 1970 and 1986. That is a special record.
The 2026 World Cup will be the largest one ever, with the most teams, the most cities, and the most matches. It will be a celebration of soccer that the whole world can enjoy together.
