What is this special list?

Every year, a magazine called MIT Technology Review picks the 10 most exciting new technologies in the world. MIT is a famous university in the United States where lots of clever scientists and inventors work.

Think of it like a 'best of the year' list, but instead of songs or movies, it is about brand-new inventions. These are tools and ideas that experts believe will change how we live, learn, and stay healthy.

Smarter robots and helpful AI

Many of the technologies on these lists are about artificial intelligence, or AI. AI is a computer program that can learn and solve problems, a bit like a very fast digital brain.

New AI 'agents' can now do tasks for people, like booking things or sorting information. Robots are also getting better at moving around and helping out, almost like a robot helper in your home or a hospital.

Medicines that fix tiny problems

Some breakthroughs are about health. Scientists are learning to make medicines that are designed just for one person, like a key made to fit one special lock.

There are also new ways to read our DNA, the tiny instruction book inside every living thing. This helps doctors catch sickness early and keep people healthier for longer.

Clean energy and a greener planet

Other technologies help our Earth. Inventors are finding cleaner ways to make electricity, so we use less stuff that pollutes the air.

Better batteries can store more power from the sun and wind. That means lights, cars, and phones can run on energy that is kinder to our planet.

Why should kids care?

These inventions might sound far away, but many will arrive while you are growing up. The phone in your pocket and the internet were once breakthroughs too!

Maybe one day YOU will invent something that makes the list. Every big idea starts with a curious person asking, 'What if?'
